Architectural Salvage
After working with stretched canvas for several years, I decided to pursue painting on materials such as windows, washboards, or other architectural salvage. Some call it “Redemptive Art,” giving these discarded pieces a second chance and new life. My spirituality largely influences my art, and I find painting to be a meditative way of being still and re-centering. Making things new reminds me of my never-ending spiritual renewal. I also love color and the idea of "giving things a fresh new coat of paint." Color field painters such as Mark Rothko, mixed media painters such as Robert Rauschenberg, and drippy painters such as Pat Steir are a few artists who have influenced my work. I also love the Fauvists or "Wild Beasts" who had such bold use of color!
