Anatomical Series
In 2013, I started having some health issues that led me to be more mindful of my body and what is going on inside. I already love painting hearts, and so I decided to paint the anatomical heart, what it represents, and the other associated parts of the anatomy near the heart field. The first painting I did is entitled "Heart Fire," which displays the charging of the heart field -- that feeling you get when you are passionate about something, when your heart is open, when you love, etc. I learned in Shiva Rea's book Tending the Heart Fire by Shiva Rea that the electromagnetic field of the heart is 5,000 times stronger than that of the brain! Then I painted "Breathe," which has cooler colors to exemplify how you can slow your heart rate, and cool your stress or anxiety with deep breathing. The most recent painting in this series is "Butterfiles in Your Stomach." I have always loved butterflies, and I became interested in the chakras after doing some Kundalini yoga and learning more about the body. The third chakra, in the area of your stomach, is where one is "sure of" him or herself, and also relates to the saying "going with your gut." I love the phrase butterflies in your stomach, and thought it would be interesting and beautiful to paint.
These are the last of my full-size paintings I created before consolidating my supplies and moving to Northern California!
